Written by: Larry Goodwin, President, The College of St. Scholastica

Summary: Institutional performance encompasses more than the financial health of an institution. It involves seeing the big picture and understanding how changes in one aspect of operations can lead to changes in other areas. Student retention, graduation, and future enrollments are several examples of mission-critical functions where performance is most closely monitored. To gain a big-picture vantage point and to support a culture of evidence-based decisions, institutions today are employing a variety of innovative data collection and analysis methods. This chapter will offer practical lessons learned from the implementation of new systems at the College of St. Scholastica to improve the college's ability to make data-driven decisions.
